  23. Jasmine: They report that their 20 meg reads writes at about 120 & seeks
  24. at 27, and that their 80 meg (only $1380!) reads writes at about 280 &
  25. seks at 17.  I was unable to test these figures myself.  Their spec sheet
  26. shows the 80 meg with much faster data transfer and access times than the
  27. 20, but they claim they had to slow it down to match the Mac.  Sounds like 
  28. a lame story to me.

  30. All of this stuff doesn't mean that much, because switching from a 10 meg
  31. Tecmar MacDrive on the serial port to a 40 meg SCSI Dataframe has only
  32. slightly increased the perceived performance of my system (but it feels
  33. great to have 26 meg of Lebensrelm left on my hard disk).  Admittedly I
  34. turned off the cache when I switched drives (everyone seems to distrust
  35. the Apple cache), so the Dataframe speed is more than compensating for the 
  36. loss of the cache.

  40. I though the BMUG test concluded that Sony was best, Maxell marginally
  41. worse, everything else not worth the failure rate and Memorex the absolute 
  42. pits (you'd be safer and better off retyping mega-Ks of machine code from
  43. paper output).  Come to think of it, this test is at least 1.75 years old
  44. and Brown diskettes were not evaluate.  Never mind...
